I'm always surprised to hear the unanimous excitement that comes when I ask, "Are you ready to check out new books for the week?" I love that my kids are excited about reading. When I plan activities for our library time I always have kids ask, "Will we still have time to check out books today, too?" It's music to my ears. I don't have an annual budget to spend on books. My spending money comes from the three book fairs I have every year. That money has to cover not only the books I want to buy, but the books the students request as well. I need to have books that will get kids excited about reading and then keep them reading. For now, the library is busy, kids are on the hunt for good books to read, and we are enjoying our library time!

As a librarian there is noting better than catching kids reading when they don't have to be. Seeing kids choose to pick up a book and enjoy a good story always makes me happy. I have car duty every afternoon at dismissal time. Kids sit quietly and wait for their cars to arrive. Every now and then I catch some "car rider readers." Here are a couple I found just the other day. Gotta love it!

About me . . .Formerly a classroom teacher. Currently a School Library Media Coordinator. I loved being in the classroom, but now that I am in the library I can't imagine doing anything else! The library is my favorite place to be. From my rocking chair to my ABC rug to the smiling student faces checking out books, the library just can't be beat! Archives
