The best part of all, however, is that the students are back and are excited about reading. I had no classes my first two days back, so I was looking forward to finally getting some kids back into the library. The kids were happy, too. They loved the new titles I was able to add to our collection over the summer and they couldn't wait to get check-out started. The only thing disappointing about the first week back was that I didn't have many of the new titles left by the time my last classes made it to the library on Friday afternoon. They were a little disappointed, too. But that just gave them something else to look forward to. This week just reminded me why I love being in the library so much! Now, lets keep the pages turning and the books going out the door!
It's always a shame to see summer break come to an end. It always seems to go by much too quickly. This summer was a little more anxious than others have been in the past due to construction going on in our school. Along with new heating and air units, which are housed in mechanical rooms just off the library, we were fortunate enough to have all our library carpeting replaced. Don't get me wrong. I was thrilled to get new carpet but it meant all the library books in free-standing bookcases had to be packed up so they could be moved for the carpet. That task alone was daunting, but then knowing all the books had to go back on the shelves before school started worried me, too. The few times I was able to get into the library over the summer almost broke my heart. It looked like a tornado had come through and left a mess in its wake. I was concerned that things would not get put back into place before Open House. However, with lots of hard work, everything made it back to its place, and, I think, looks better than ever. And the new carpet looks amazing! It was well worth all the hard work. Everyone, including the returning students, have commented on how great it looks.
