Dr. Seuss Day
Hey Lion Cubs! Happy Tuesday! Welcome to another edition of Long Distance Library. Today we are going to celebrate one of the greatest children's authors ever - Dr. Seuss! Each year we celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2 with Read Across America week. But, Dr. Seuss is so amazing that we are going to celebrate him again today here on Long Distance Library. First, we will learn a little more about Dr. Seuss himself from PebbleGo and then we will enjoy some fun Dr. Seuss stories as well. Click here for my daily video and then we'll get started!
So, what do we really know about Dr. Seuss? Was that his real name? How did he come up with the books and characters he created? What was his first children's book? If you would like answers to these questions, and more, you can find them at PebbleGo. If you look in the Biography database in PebbleGo, then in Authors and Artists, you can find an article about Dr. Seuss in the Authors section. There you will learn about his early life, his books, and then his later years. There's even a short video for you to watch. So, if you'd like to know about the real Dr. Seuss, click here to go to PebbleGo. Our school has a subscription so you will need to sign in. Remember to use our school name for the username and password.
For our Dr. Seuss stories today we are going to head over to Storytime with Ryan and Craig. They have five Dr. Seuss stories on their read aloud page. Fox in Socks is one of my favorite Dr. Seuss stories to read aloud. I love all the tongue twisters and rhyming words. My favorite part is about the tweetle beetles that have paddle battles in a bottle! Which one of the stories below do you like best? Choose one to watch . . . or watch them all! You can click here to go to Ryan and Craig's read aloud page or you can click the link under each book below to go straight to that story. "I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them Sam I am!"
Welcome to Seussville! The home for all things Dr. Seuss! Here on the Seussville website you can learn more about Dr. Seuss' books, his characters, and the man himself. There are video clips of Dr. Seuss' books that you can watch and there are games you can play with some of his most recognizable characters. So, click here to head on over to Seussville and have a look around.
We have one last activity for Dr. Seuss day here on Long Distance Library. Did you know that PBS Kids has a place on their website dedicated to Dr. Seuss? There you can play games like Bridge-a-rama and Camp Time. They even have full length videos of "The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!" There are music videos and clips from the full length episodes, too. Some of them are even in Spanish. So, if you would like to play some games with The Cat in the Hat or you'd like to watch some episodes of "The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!", then you can click here and take a trip over to PBS Kids.
