More Bears!
Hey there Lion Cubs! Happy Thursday! Welcome back for another edition of Long Distance Library. Today, we are continuing our bear theme from yesterday. We enjoyed several different bear stories yesterday, including one of my favorite books, Corduroy. Today we are going to start off with the book The Bears in the Bed and the Great Big Storm, from Paul Bright and Jane Chapman. Our read aloud comes to us today from Storytime with Ryan and Craig. Click here to find out all about the bears hiding out in the bed from the great big storm!
One of my favorite children's authors is Karma Wilson. She has so many wonderful children's books, but her Bear books are my favorites. Bear Snores On. Bear Says Thanks. Bear's Loose Tooth. Bear Feels Sick. Bear Stays Up for Christmas. Bear's New Friend. I love the stories of Bear and all of his friends. Today we have the book Bear Snores On. One by one, Bear's friends find their way out of the cold and into his cave to warm up. But even after the tea has been brewed and the corn has been popped, Bear just snores on. What will happen when he finally wakes up and finds his cave full of uninvited guests having a party without him? Click here to go to KidLit TV to hear the author, Karma Wilson, read aloud her book Bear Snores On, and find out what Bear's reaction will be.
We can't have a bear theme without the traditional story of The Three Bears. We all know the story of how the bears go out for a walk to allow their porridge to cool. While they are away, Goldilocks makes herself at home in their house. Eating their porridge, breaking their chairs, and sleeping in their beds. Goldilocks might not think too much of this, but the bears sure aren't happy about it. As Papa Bear says, "Someone's been sitting in my chair!" Our Three Bears story, retold by Paul Galdone, comes to us today from Storytime with Ryan and Craig. Click here to watch them read aloud one of the most well-known fairy tales of all time.
When I was little I loved to watch Sesame Street. I knew exactly which channel it was on and what time it started. I loved Big Bird and Bert and Ernie and Cookie Monster. I still like to watch some of the old clips from the show. I frequently share them in my library classes at school. They are still just as good today as they were way back when. So, to go along with our bear theme, and the story of The Three Bears, I have this fun Baby Bear video from Sesame Street. It's called "While the Porridge Cools." Baby Bear's porridge is too hot, so maybe he'll go for a wee little stroll in the woods while it cools. But, what if Goldilocks shows up while he's gone? Click here to see what Baby Bear decides to do "While the Porridge Cools."
To wrap up our bear theme for the day, how about we check out some real bears? Click the link here to go to a webcam that shows Brooks Falls in the Katmai National Park in Alaska. This webcam shows fish leaping up a waterfall while brown bears look for the best fishing spots. The largest bears can catch and eat more than 30 salmon per day! You can see the most bears at Brooks Falls in late June and July. When you get to the webcam, it may not be live but you can see pre-recorded videos of bears fishing for their dinner. There are a few other pre-recorded webcam videos available at this website as well. Just scroll down and choose some of the others you would like to watch. Happy fishing!
