Ahoy there matey!
Hey there Lion Cubs! Happy Thursday! Welcome back for another edition of Long Distance Library! Our title hints at our theme for today. We are going to hoist the sails, swab the deck, and hopefully not walk the plank in our pirate themed Long Distance Library! We have some great pirate themed read alouds today so click here for my daily video and then let's set sail! Ahoy me hearties!
Author Melinda Long has two pirate books to share with us today. The first is called How I Became a Pirate. In this book Jeremy Jacob joins Captain Braid Beard and his crew to learn more about pirate life. Jeremy learns how to say "scurvy dog," sing sea shanties, and throw food. But he also learns that there are no books or good night kisses on board this pirate ship. Melinda Long's second pirate book is titled Pirates Don't Change Diapers. In this book, Jeremy Jacob is back for another pirate adventure. This time the pirates show up at his house and accidentally wake up his baby sister. "That wee scallywag howls louder than a storm on the high seas!" Sure there's buried treasure to be found, but nobody's digging up anything until Bonney Anne quits her caterwauling. So, quicker than you can say "scurvy dog," Braid Beard and his swashbuckling pirates become babysitters!
Well, shiver me timbers! To continue our pirate theme today we have a couple more buccaneer themed read alouds. These come to us from Storytime with Ryan and Craig. First on deck we have the book Pirates Love Underpants, written by Claire Freedman. These pirates love underpants so much they are on a special quest to find the mystical Pants of Gold for the Captain's treasure chest. This book is full of pirates, sharks, and treasure! Yo-ho-ho! Our second read aloud from Ryan and Craig is titled Henry & the Buccaneer Bunnies, written by Carolyn Crimi. On board the Salty Carrot sails a wild, rowdy band of Buccaneer Bunnies, led by Barnacle Black Ear, the baddest bunny of all time. His son, Henry, would rather read books than shout, "Shiver me timbers!" or make prisoners walk the plank, even if it means swabbing the deck as punishment. But when a crashing storm threatens them all, will Henry and his landlubbin' library save the day?
