Under the Sea
Hey there Lion Cubs! Happy Friday! Welcome back for the final edition of Long Distance Library! Yes, this is our final episode. I have really missed spending time with you guys in our library, but I hope you have enjoyed our Long Distance Library lessons over the last several weeks. Since it is almost summer, we are going to wrap up our time together with an ocean theme! Get your swimsuit on! Find your sunglasses! Grab your floaties! Click here for my daily video and then let's dive right in!
We are going to start out our ocean theme with the book Clark the Shark, written by Bruce Hale. Clark is a shark with zing, bang, and boom. Clark zooms into school, crashes through the classroom, and is rowdy at recess. Clark loves life, but when his excitement is too much for his friends, Clark's teacher, Mrs. Inkydink, helps him figure out a way to tone it down. If you'd like to hear more about Clark, you can click here to go to Storyline Online where you can see a read aloud of Clark the Shark, written by Bruce Hale.
Clark the Shark is back with his usual zip, bang, and boom! This time, in Clark the Shark Takes Heart, it's Anna Angelfish's birthday, and Clark wants to find the perfect present for her to show her how he feels. But when he tries to make a big impression, things don't go quite as planned. With help from his best friend, Joey Mackerel, Clark learns that when it comes to showing that you care, something thoughtful and small could be best of all. This time our Clark the Shark tale comes to us from Storytime with Ryan and Craig. If your would like to hear about the gift Clark chooses for Anna, click here for a read aloud of Clark the Shark Takes Heart, written by Bruce Hale.
On a beautiful day at the beach, a boy brings along his bucket, shovel, and imagination, and builds the perfect sand castle. Right away, a dragon moves in! That's exactly what happens in this book titled When a Dragon Moves In, written by Jodi Moore. The boy makes friends with the dragon and they spend the day roaming the shore and braving the waves all while Dad is busy sunbathing and Mom is reading her book. Unfortunately, no one believes the boy when he tries to share the news of his new friend. That's when the trouble begins. The dragon eats every last sandwich, blows bubbles in the lemonade, and leaves claw prints in the brownies. Is there really a dragon causing mayhem on the beach? Or is it just a little boy's imagination running wild? If you would like to find out, click here to go back to Storyline Online where you can hear a read aloud of the book When a Dragon Moves In, written by Jodi Moore.
Our next two stories come to us today from TumbleBooks and they are both about Mr. Magee and his little dog Dee. With enough lunch for three, Mr. Magee and his dog Dee head out to the sea in the book Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee, written by Chris Van Dusen. What begins as a fun day in the sun turns a bit bumpy when one playful whale decides to say hello. Soon the crew that once was floating finds themselves flying! How will they get down? Who will come to their rescue? Click the link below to find out what happens with Mr. Magee and Dee's trip to the sea. Our second book from TumbleBooks is titled A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee. I know this doesn't fit our ocean theme, but it's Mr. Magee and it's a lot of fun! In A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee, Mr. Magee and his trusty dog, Dee, are enjoying a peaceful camping trip when along comes a marshmallow-loving bear and the excitement begins. The next thing the two campers know, they are plunging down a mountain, racing down a river, and teetering on the edge of a waterfall! How will Mr. Magee and Dee find their way out of this slippery situation? To find out, you will have to click the link below and see just what happens on A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee.

I am going to leave you with a website we have visited here before on Long Distance Library, The Monterey Bay Aquarium. Located on the California coast, the Monterey Bay Aquarium houses frolicking sea otters, fast-swimming sharks, glowing jellies, and waddling penguins. In the past I have recommended their webcams that allow us to take a peek at the lives of the animals living below the ocean's surface. I am going to put that link in here again, but I'm also going to include a link to a page on the Monterey Bay Aquarium's website that has lots of games and activities that you can do in your very own home. These links go along perfectly with our under the sea theme today. I hope you will take time to click here and enjoy some of the games and activities on their website. Then, when you are finished, you can click here and spend some time watching the webcams where you can swim with the sharks, glide along with the sea otters, and float peacefully with the jellyfish. Enjoy your time spent under the sea!
