Over in the Pond
Hey Lion Cubs! Happy Tuesday! Welcome to another edition of Long Distance Library! Yesterday we had a fishy theme, focusing mostly on ocean-dwelling fish. Today we are going to move from the ocean to a pond. We will start with a read aloud of the book Over and Under the Pond, written by Kate Messner. So get your row boat, grab your fishing pole, and let's get started! |
Our next pond story comes from author Kate Messner. She is going to read aloud her book Over and Under the Pond. This book brings to life a secret underwater world. While a boat slips along quietly above the water, there are countless things going on under the water that are hidden. Click here to see Kate Messner read aloud her book Over and Under the Pond to find out all about things living over, around, and under a pond. |
We have a few more stories to go with our pond theme today and they are all about ducks. The first two come to us from TumbleBooks. One Duck Stuck is a counting book about a duck who gets stuck in a mucky marsh. Along come some pond friends who try to help the duck get unstuck. The second book, The Uglified Ducky, is a take on the traditional story of the Ugly Duckling. Instead of a swan we have a young moose who thinks he's a duckling and tries his best to fit in. You can click here to go straight to TumbleBooks or you can click the links below to go straight to each of the books.
We will wrap up our pond theme with a book about a duckling who wants more than anything to attend eagle school. A duck? In eagle school? That's just what happens in this book by Isai Gutierrez called Miguel Goes to Eagle School. This is a great story about sticking to your dreams no matter what others might think. It reminds us that if we work hard and keep our eyes on our dreams, like Miguel, we too can soar with the eagles. Here's a fun fact about the author, Isai Gutierrez. When Mrs. Morningstar worked in Houston, he was her Dean of Students. Special thanks to Mrs. Morningstar for sharing the news of this book with us.
