Let's start off with a princess in a not so traditional fairy tale. We've all heard fairy tales where the prince sweeps in to save the princess from a fire breathing dragon, right? Well this book by Robert Munsch titled The Paper Bag Princess has all of that. There's a prince, a princess, and a fire breathing dragon. However, that's where the similarities end. Princess Elizabeth takes matters into her own hands and must use her wits to outsmart the fiercest dragon in all the land to save Prince Ronald. But is he really worth it? Now let's meet another clever girl. This story is all about Clever Beatrice. Written by Margaret Willey, this book tells the story of Beatrice and her plan to outsmart a giant and win some of his gold as she does. Beatrice and her mother have very little. But there's a giant nearby with gold to spare. Beatrice knows she may not be as big or as strong as the giant, but she is certain she is smarter than he is. The giant agrees to take on Beatrice, thinking no one as small as she could get the better of him. What he doesn't count on is that brains beat brawn every time! So we all know the story of Red Riding Hood, right? She was a pretty clever girl herself. She was smart enough to know her grandma's eyes, ears, and teeth shouldn't be as big as those of a wolf. She was much too smart to fall for the wolf's tricks. Well, let's take that traditional Red Riding Hood story and shake it up a little. What if Red Riding Hood had some ninja skills? And Grandma took classes in tai chi? Click here to go to Storytime with Ryan and Craig to hear all about Ninja Red Riding Hood written by Corey Rosen Schwartz.
Our last story comes to use from TumbleBooks. This story is called Fiona's Luck and it's written by Teresa Bateman. Fiona must battle against the greedy Leprechaun King who has taken all the good fortune in Ireland and locked it away. Fiona must use her smarts to come up with a plan to get the luck and good tidings back from the leprechauns to again spread it to the people of Ireland.
